Firewood BTU Comparison Chart
Seasoned hardwood is the most efficient wood to burn. Seasoning depends on conditions, location, temperature and moisture but is typically between 3 months and a year. All of our firewood is split and seasoned a minimum of 4 months prior to being sold. Species MED Compared to evergreen firewood (softwoods) hardwoods like elm are more dense resulting in more BTU's, longer burn times, and overall lower costs. Softwoods and low density hardwoods (i.e. aspen) do produce a unique aroma and can produce a nice crackle which may be desired, especially in an open fireplace. If you are burning wood primarily to heat your home, hardwood is the way to go!
