Firewood Information

Firewood is a great fuel that can be used to heat your home or business. Firewood heat is measured in British Thermal Units (BTU's). Firewood is sold in cords which is a stack of wood that measures 8 foot long, 4 foot wide and 4 foot high or approximately 128 cubic feet.  Some of the more common species of wood found in the Arkansas River Valley and their burning characteristics are listed below.

Firewood BTU Comparison Chart

Seasoned hardwood is the most efficient wood to burn.  Seasoning depends on conditions, location, temperature and moisture but is typically between 3 months and a year.

All of our firewood is split and seasoned a minimum of 4 months prior to being sold.

Compared to evergreen firewood (softwoods) hardwoods like elm are more dense resulting in more BTU's, longer burn times, and overall lower costs.

Softwoods and low density hardwoods (i.e. aspen) do produce a unique aroma and can produce a nice crackle which may be desired, especially in an open fireplace.

If you are burning wood primarily to heat your home, hardwood is the way to go!
